2 cups fresh sliced peaches
2 cups sugar
6 tablespoons butter
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 cup flour

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  In a large bowl, mix peaches and 1 cup of sugar together and set aside.  In a Dutch over or casserole , melt butter.  In another bowl, combine remaining sugar, salt, baking powder, and flour.  Whisk in milk until smooth.  Pour batter on melted butter.  Do not stir.  Spread peaches over batter.  Do not stir.  Bake for 45 minutes until golden brown.

Non-melting peaches remain firm after canning.  Most commercial canned peaches are non-melting.  Their flesh adheres to the pit when ripe.  Melting flesh peaches have flesh that becomes soft overtime.  Melting flesh peaches can be clingstone or freestone.
